DREAM JOURNAL - A FRIEND IN NEED

In this dream I was totally lost in a dark wooded area. In the distance I could hear whimpering and then saw a dog slowly walking toward me. There were numerous round berries stuck on its chest. At first I thought they were just smeared on but upon closer inspection I saw they had needles and were sticking in there. That poor dog’s expression couldn’t have been sadder than if it been forced to do stupid pet tricks.

As I knelt down to help I hoped removing the berries would be painless. Brushing its chest with my hand calmed the dog and the berries just fell off.

I heard him say “Thanks, pal.”

Then I woke up.

I love the holiday season but I have lovely friends who hate the Christmas season. This is for them.

DREAM JOURNAL - NO FREE LUNCH

My Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep in 1997. In this dream he and I were in the men's clothing section of a large department store and I was trying to buy him a black and white checkered sport coat. A splurge just because I thought that the sport coat looked sharp. It was something he would never buy for himself. We went back and forth talking about the merits of this coat and I finally convinced him to at least just try it on.

He did and after checking himself out in the mirror, he suddenly turned to me and said "Don't forget you have overdue books from the library. There is no free lunch".

DREAM JOURNAL - ABBIE

I was sitting outside letting the warm sun sooth me...strains of Jimmie Rodgers singing Blue Yodel #9 softly drifting by in the air. Behind me I heard a voice say "Hey man" in that Worcester pahk ya cah accent.

Turning around I recognized that face but he hadn't aged and he looked just like he did 50 years ago! As I wonder how that could be he said "It's your dream, man."

I tried to get something going with him, doing a little brown nosing and sucking up by telling him I had already voted and mailed in my ballot for the upcoming mid term election. "Big deal", he said. "So you get an A plus in civics."

So I started to argue with him about the importance of voting and he said "Listen schmuck, all these assholes are the same. They preach save the earth but they take money from the gas companies. Clinton was a gangster who sold out the workers with NAFTA and hurt the brothers with his crime bill. Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize and drone bombed more innocent kids than Bush, and they all play golf with Trump. Politics ain't who you vote for, it's how you live your life."

I woke up then before I could ask him about the afterlife.

DREAM JOURNAL PARANOIA

Something bad had happened. I wasn't sure if an act of biological terrorism had gone down, or some kind of bomb had gone off but when I looked around it was chaos. Nobody would tell me what was happening. The scene shifted and I was inside a secret concrete bunker for questioning.

A soldier stood next to me while a Secret Policeman drew down on me. Yikes, that handgun looked read! I saw a man with headphones and some type of high tech gadget monitoring...what? My thoughts? my heartbeats?

I knew enough to just say one word: "Lawyer".

Just then Gilbert the Ghetto Rat appeared and said "Relax pal, I've got this."

I've gotta stop watching Netflix shows like Blacklist and Designated Survivor before bedtime.

Louis Thomas Hardin aka Moondog (May 26, 1916 - September 8, 1999) was a blind musician who would stand on the corner of 6th Avenue/52nd street in New York wearing a Viking outfit. He would compose music based on the street sounds he heard. Most pedestrians gave him a wide berth but my Dad and I stopped and talked to him whenever we saw him. He had musical instruments we'd never seen before and also sold poetry. The world is full of interesting humans.
